About the improved repeat prescribing form:

• The first time you use the new system you will need to register by filling in an on-screen form.

• The new system allows you to pick your own password.
• When you register you will be sent an email to your inbox. Follow the instructions to complete your registration.
• That's it! Enter your password and you will be presented with a new form.
• The new form does several things to make this easier. - It will offer you a drop down box to pick your medication from. Enter the name of your medication as normal. It will remember your previous requests and even email you a reminder when next due (you set the interval yourself)

What is a repeat prescription?

A repeat prescription is a prescription that your doctor is happy for you to have without needing to come in to see the doctor.

We do monitor repeat prescriptions closely for safety reasons. We will normally review your treatment periodically, and may ask you to attend surgery to be reviewed.

how to order repeat prescriptions

• call in to the surgery
  bringing your repeat prescription slip with you. Tick the medications you require.
  
• pharmacist to collect.
  several local pharmacists operate a scheme whereby you drop in your repeat slip to them with your required medication ticked as usual. The pharmacist brings us your request, then will dispense to you from their shop. Some will even deliver if your are housebound.
  We still require your completed repeat prescription slip so please tell your chemist those medicines you require and ask him not to request those you don't.

  Give us a stamped addressed envelope with your completed repeat prescription form and we will post your prescription to you.

Monitoring

You may need to have periodic blood tests if you are on certain medicines. This will be discussed by your doctor, and you will normally be advised how often you need to have the test.

When it is time for us to review your treatment a message will be sent, usually on your repeat prescription slip, asking you to attend before your next prescription is due. Please try to come in, it is in your best interest and is good medical practice.

Prescription Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
